Pros and Cons of Hybrid work place

Introduction

Hybrid work is a combination of working from home and working from the office (Kirkham, 2022). This approach carries pros and cons like a variety of things in our day-to-day.

According to a survey done by Gallup in the US, 52% use the hybrid approach.

Pros

1. Better work-life balance

A hybrid workplace will give employees a better work-life balance alongside improving employee satisfaction. Reductions in physical and mental stress will motivate employees and give them more time to attend to personal matters (North East BIC, 2021).

2. Rise in productivity

The employees are more concentrated with fewer distractions owing to the flexibility enabled by hybrid work environments. As a result, a spike in productivity can be noticed (North EastBIC, 2021).

3. Talent Retention and attraction

A hybrid work environment is an added opportunity that an employer can offer to the employees. Therefore by adding a such feature, the employer can retain the best talent in the company. Moreover, the company can widen the talent scope by enabling candidates living elsewhere to apply (Kirkham, 2022).

4. Cost-effective

Hybrid working allows employees to work from home and by doing so employers aren't required to find working space which will save the company a significant amount in utility, renting costs and real estate (Akhter,  2022).

Cons

1. Not all industries are capable of adopting

Some industries such as manufacturing and essential service providers therefore are required to be on-site where it is difficult to work remotely. if a hybrid work plan is put in place it could result in a drop in productivity (North East BIC, 2021).

2. difficulties in planning and collaborating with remote employees

If necessary technology and infrastructure are not provided it would be hard for the employer to collaborate with his employees and it could hinder the company's productivity (Kirkham, 2022).

3. unable to provide client and customer experience

Some industries do require customers to face employees because it is essential that the customer gets the best experience and customer service (North East BIC, 2021).

4. Isolation

By working remotely some employees may feel lonely and away which could lead to worries about the well-being of the employees (North East BIC, 2021).

 Conclusion

The concept of hybrid working has become widely accepted across most industries since the pandemic of 2019. Although there are some drawbacks, this strategy appears to be the best and the most dependable given that it results win-win opportunities to both the employer and the employee. The employees desire remote work due to the flexibility and work-life balance meanwhile the employers can benefit with spikes in productivity and cost reductions in certain areas. It appears to be getting better and producing results, so it is undoubtedly here to stay.

Comments

  1. This article provides a convincing overview of the advantages and disadvantages of hybrid work. I question if claiming that hybrid work is universally the "optimal and most reliable" method for all businesses may be an exaggeration.

Does the best work model vary significantly depending on the industry? For instance, many positions need extensive in-person cooperation or physical presence, while others could be successful only in a remote environment.
